5-Day Mount Kenya Trekking Itinerary (Sirimon Up – Chogoria Down Route)

Route: Sirimon Gate → Point Lenana → Chogoria Gate

Accommodation: Full-board, tented camping

Day 1: Nairobi – Sirimon Gate – Old Moses Camp (3,300m)

Departure: From Nairobi via shared shuttle or private taxi (extra fee applies)

Arrive at Sirimon Gate (2,650m) by noon

Meet porters and chef, enjoy lunch

Start the trek through the montane forest and bamboo zone to Old Moses Camp (3,300m)

Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Accommodation:Tent at Old Moses Camp

Day 2: Old Moses Camp – Shipton’s Camp (4,200m)

Early breakfast, then begin the trek

Pass through Moorland and Mackinder Valley, spotting unique wildlife

Arrive at Shipton’s Camp (4,200m) in the afternoon

Acclimatization walk around the camp

Hiking Time: 6–7 hours

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Accommodation: Tent at Shipton’s Camp

Day 3: Shipton’s Camp – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Mintos Camp (4,300m)

Summit Day: Wake up at 03:00 AM for an early start

Trek under the stars to Point Lenana (4,985m) for a breathtaking sunrise photography session

Capture stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Aberdares, and the Rift Valley

After sunrise, descend via the Chogoria Route to Mintos Camp (4,300m)

Hiking Time: 7–8 hours

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Accommodation: Tent at Mintos Camp

Day 4: Mintos Camp – Chogoria Bandas (3,000m)

Leisurely breakfast, then descend through the scenic Gorges Valley

Pass crystal-clear Lake Ellis and Nithi Waterfalls

Arrive at Chogoria Bandas (3,000m) in the afternoon

Hiking Time: 5–6 hours

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Accommodation: Tent at Chogoria Bandas

Day 5: Chogoria Bandas – Chogoria Town – Nairobi

Final descent through the lower forest to Chogoria Gate (2,950m)

Continue on foot to Chogoria town

Return to Nairobi via shared shuttle or private taxi (extra fee applies)

Hiking Time: 2–3 hours

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
